How to read these citations

Volume (area × depth ÷ 324) is unit conversion: NIST states that 1 cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, and 12 inches make a foot, so one yard covers 324 square feet at 1 inch. Weight (1.35 tons per yard) is a moist, as-delivered planning factor. USDA NRCS bulk density is oven-dry and varies by texture — we cite it to show why a wet clay load is not the same as a fluffy compost blend, not to claim 1.35 is a lab measurement.

Price tables are national homeowner ranges from Angi, HomeGuide, and Lawn Love. They are not invoices and not a survey of your county. Sod pallet size is not a federal standard; we use 450 square feet because several growers publish that as a common cut, and we show the 400–600 range they also publish.
